Tattoo Removal Procedure

Laser treatment is done by applying wavelengths of light through the epidermis and into the dermis where the ink usually resides. Once the ink have been absorbs the light energy, it then breaks up into tiny pieces which penetrates into the body and naturally fades away.

There are several steps involved when undergoing a laser treatment for tattoo removal. Once you have talked to your doctor and have an agreement that laser treatment is an appropriate method for your tattoo to be removed, you are then ready to make an appointment as to when the treatment can be done. During the surgery, you should have an eyewear that will protect your eyes from the laser rays. Then your surgeon will do a sampling by applying laser on a small portion of a pigmented skin. This is to determine the wavelength of light required for the ink to be removed from your skin. After the sampling, the surgeon will start by activating the laser and apply it on the tattooed area. Depending on the type of tattoo you have, specific laser procedures are applied to you by your surgeon. It is advisable that you know all about this before undergoing the procedure. Once laser treatment is done, an ice pack is applied to the skin. You will then be advised to apply a cream to avoid infection and irritation. The laser treatment for tattoo removal may take about five to ten minutes. However, you may be required to undergo several sessions depending on type and size of your tattoo.
